2026 GMC Hummer EV Redesign, Dimensions, Performance – One of the most ridiculous electric luxury cars available is the 2026 GMC Hummer EV. The original’s wide stance, big tires, and strong diesel engine made it terrifying, to put it nicely. The new Hummer is still a big, everyday car, with the notable exception of being electric.
The first 2026 GMC Hummer EVs are being driven as you read this. The already-sold-out Edition 1, which retails for $110,295 plus $1,595 for shipping, is the first item to go on sale. There will be less costly models priced between $80,000 and $100,000 later this year, as well as in 2023 and 2026.
The Edition 1 has the most noteworthy characteristics. Under ideal conditions, a 205-kilowatt-hour battery pack can power 329 kilometers, according to GMC. The 800-volt architecture allows for the use of the most powerful 350-kilowatt DC fast chargers, and GMC claims that the Hummer can go 100 miles on electricity in around 12 minutes. The automaker calculates that it will take 42 minutes to charge the battery from 20% to 80% at an average charging speed of 175 kW. 2026 GMC Hummer EV Redesign

Exterior & Interior
A 205-kWh battery powers the Edition 1’s three electric motors, which are located in the front and two in the rear. It generates a remarkable 1,000 horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet of torque. The 9,000-pound beast can reach 60 miles per hour in less than three seconds when using the Watts to Freedom launch mode. With a big car, that’s insane.
How large exactly? The 2026 GMC Hummer EV’s measurements are more than eight feet wide by more than eighteen feet long. Because of its width, it requires three wipers to maintain a clear windshield and the legally mandated marker lights.
Because of its rear-wheel steering, the Hummer looks more like a medium truck, but off-road driving should be challenging. The Hummer’s ten-degree rotating back wheels let it to negotiate around any bend. Because the turning circle is just 37.1 feet long, I can slalom over stones that I would frequently clip in a car this size. The rear-wheel steering is a game changer for off-road agility.
When the rear wheels move in unison with the front wheels, the Hummer’s Crab Walk is incredible. One of the most peculiar things I’ve ever experienced in a car is feeling the car go both forward and sideways. A monster truck flip is not quite as strange as this. The Hummer comes with two dirt modes: Off-Road and Terrain.
Additionally, there is an Extract setting that raises the truck to its maximum suspension height in case you need to release it (if you can get it imprisoned in the first place). The Hummer EV has a maximum ride height of 11.9 inches with approach, departure, and breakover angles of 44.3, 33.7, and 25.4 degrees, respectively. With the exception of breakover, it performs better than the Rivian R1T and surpasses the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon in every specification.
Drivers can modify the regenerative braking when in off-road mode. Remember that an EV effectively stops when you let go of the throttle. Sometimes that’s great and exactly what you want, but I’d want to get the Hummer into some sand dunes, where timing the throttle pull is what allows a gas-powered truck to fly through the air or swerve over the dunes. It will determine whether the Hummer crashes and becomes stranded at the crest of the dune or smashes through it like a pro.
The Hummer’s design makes sure that the pedal feels the same no matter which way the car is slowing down, even when the mechanical brakes are in terrain mode. Unfortunately, while utilizing the mechanical brakes in this mode, a significant amount of stopping force is squandered. But GMC thought Terrain mode, designed for low-speed rock crawling, may provide drivers a little more control by allowing them to use only the dependable mechanical brakes.
In contrast to the Rivian R1T, the Hummer uses incredible computer engineering to provide the ideal amount of torque to each wheel even though it has front and rear locking differentials. Despite being virtual, the rear locker achieves the same objective as the mechanical front locker: it keeps the wheels rotating even in the absence of traction. During my test drive, I saw a small tire spin when I looked in the back a few times, but it quickly disappeared, proving that lockers aren’t actually needed for the quick journey. 2026 GMC Hummer EV Redesign
2026 GMC Hummer EV Specs
Engine & Performance
The tires on the Hummer, which feature 18-inch wheels and 35-inch rubber on all four sides, are made by Goodyear. Despite GMC’s claim that you could install 37-inch tires if you so chose, none were available when I had my test drive.
The Hummer’s most surprising tire fact, though, is that there isn’t a spare. For a car that is supposed to be an off-road beast, the lack of a traditional spare is a little unexpected, but GMC designers told me it was a packaging problem. Fortunately, a spare tire carrier was installed in the bed by the dealer, but this shouldn’t raise the price.
The Hummer’s four-wheel independent suspension technology is largely responsible for the fun off-road experience. My head doesn’t move much, and the chairs are cozy, heated, and cooled. This big car is easy to get in and out of thanks to grab handles on all four corners.
Driving the Hummer on pavement makes it feel, well, normal. The wind noise is tolerable in spite of the car’s aggressive tires and brick-like body. Of course, if you want the whole experience, you can take off the roof panels. They are lightweight and may be stored in the frunk with an extra connector. The amazing Super Cruise driver-assistance technology from General Motors, which smoothly navigates the highway and modifies the truck’s speed before turns, is installed on the Edition 1.
The Hummer may be a little challenging to drive in cities due to its massive blind spots. However, the most noticeable feature of the Hummer is unquestionably its weight. Despite having excellent brakes, the 9,000-pound Hummer takes a lot longer to stop than you’re probably used to. 2026 GMC Hummer EV Redesign
2026 GMC Hummer EV Fuel Economy
The weight of the Hummer makes it inefficient. It features a 205-kWh battery with an estimated 329-mile range and utilizes 1.6 miles per kWh. The Ford F-150 Lightning’s long-range 131-kWh battery is anticipated to provide 2.3 miles per kWh, whilst the Rivian R1T’s 135-kW battery can go 2.3 miles per kWh.
Naturally, the whole driving range is on dirt. I can’t make a strong judgment since I’m not very experienced off-road, but the computer showed that at the end of the trail adventure, the truck’s efficiency had decreased to 1 mile per kWh, or a range of 205 miles. Not very good, that.
But for a car like this, slipstream efficiency is not expected. The greatest EV for making a statement is without a doubt the Hummer. If you want to do it all, or at least seem to be able to, the new Hummer EV is the car for you, despite its drawbacks.
