2026 Nissan Leaf Plus Specs, Engine, Interior

2026 Nissan Leaf Plus Specs, Engine, Interior – We have a decent notion of what it’s like to live an electric life after a year and thousands of kilometers. Ignore the environmental advantages of buying an electric car for a time. There are many more reasons to convert to electric automobiles, if our 2026 Nissan Leaf experience taught us anything. Over the course of thousands of kilometers and all four seasons, we found a number of reasons to like the electric life.

2026 Nissan Leaf Plus Review

Our Nissan Leaf ran well the entire time. Standard gas cars don’t have many fluids to change, so we didn’t even need to visit the dealer. The standard 7,500-mile free multi-point inspection was due to expire when we submitted our tester. To protect our little front driver, we switched out the standard 17-inch Michelin Energy Saver all-season tires with Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 winter tires when the weather became poor. Normally, this would have required a tire rotation.

Battery electric vehicle ownership promised even less dealer visits than traditional internal combustion car maintenance periods, which our Leaf more than fulfilled. If you hate going to dealers, you could be saved by an EV like the Leaf. 2026 Nissan Leaf Plus Specs

The charging network we connected to, not our test car, was the source of any reliability problems with our Leaf. Yours as well as our EIC During a snowy journey home in April of last year, a pay-for-juice Greenlots quick charger broke down when the car arrived.

Despite having Level 2 charging stations in our garages, we ran into a problem with the infrastructure. “Clearly Nissan bears no fault there, but I present this story as an example of the sorts of compromises an EV early adopter will need to consider when road-tripping,” said Tim Stevens.

I had a similar incident at an Ann Arbor ChargePoint station, but fortunately I was able to find another close, thus the issue was mitigated.

According to our man Stevens, the car “…delivered solid range, meeting or exceeding its 151-mile EPA rating” during the warmer months. Naturally, during the hard Michigan winter that lasted the majority of my time with our long-term Leaf, Range succumbed to the awful cold.Depending on the amount of highway travel needed, driving range immediately dropped to as low as 72 miles, a 52 percent loss. It only applied, though, if the vehicle was parked in subfreezing conditions for the whole night.

Longer trips may cause you to pause, but easy solutions, such as ensuring the battery was fully charged overnight, will help minimize range loss. It was also easier to park the car in the garage and pre-heat it using the app while it was still plugged in. Finally, if you have an L2 charger at home or at work, there are a number of benefits to not having to stand outside in the cold at gas stations. 2026 Nissan Leaf Plus Specs

Engine & Performance

This issue and any potential winter range blues appear to be resolved with the 2026 Nissan Leaf Plus. Its larger 62-kWh battery offers a considerably healthier 226 miles of range (higher, heavier trims have a range of just 215 miles). The base S Plus trim, which comes with greater power and standard equipment, costs $37,445 delivered. If you reside in a location that receives a lot of snowfall, we would suggest giving the Plus careful thought. But the Plus is also starting to face competition from vehicles like Kia’s amazing new 2026 Niro EV ($39,495 delivered), a somewhat larger crossover with a 239-mile range.

For long-term testing, we were especially interested in the ProPilot Assist and E-Pedal features of the second-generation Leaf. We have plenty to be thankful for with both. Thanks to the strong regenerative braking offered by E-Pedal, a driver-selectable feature, we were able to stop in over 90% of typical driving scenarios without ever using the brake pedal. Even on hillsides, this was accurate. Importantly, we did see some fluctuation in the brake pedal’s feel according to the battery’s charge level, but it was never severe enough to cause us any significant annoyance. In fact, it was usually fun to use the E-Pedal to extend range.

Having Nissan’s ProPilot Assist suite of hands-on driving aids, which includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centering, was incredibly beneficial. This Level 2 technique was simple to apply and relatively consistent in maintaining the middle of the lane when there were suitable lane markers. The painted marks vanished, but it still functioned well. We didn’t have many commute-related office blunders, but when we did, the Leaf really made life easier.

One feature we didn’t particularly like about the Leaf was its lane-departure warning system, which shakes the steering wheel when it detects a driver is leaving their lane. In my February update, I stated that “… the motor responsible for the vibration is so loud that passengers notice and react regardless, and the quality of the sound itself feels decidedly subpremium, like some sort of overseas telephone busy signal.” It looks like a rather easy fix, so perhaps Nissan will take care of this problem soon.

Overall, we found that it was much easier than one might think to adapt to the Leaf way of life. Winter driving is a delight because to the Nissan’s (relatively) thin tires and the electric motor’s naturally linear, smooth power delivery. The car’s plenty of torque from a dead stop also readily handled the worst stoplight-to-stoplight motion we could locate.

In addition to its superb performance on the city loop, the Leaf also showed excellent passing power and little wind noise on the interstate. The second is particularly important but difficult to manage in an EV as there is no typical IC powertrain noise to halt those currents. In this case, the aforementioned ProPilot Assist was also quite helpful to the Leaf. 2026 Nissan Leaf Plus Specs

Our completely furnished, premium SL model, painted Deep Blue Pearl, arrived in April 2026. Even while it wasn’t as daring and controversial as its predecessor, we immediately felt that the second-generation Leaf’s more family-oriented design was far more pleasant and well-balanced. This positive impression lasted throughout the entire year.

Over the course of our twelve months in New York and Michigan, we put in around 8,000 miles and thousands of kilowatt hours—roughly what you would expect from a daily driver. We drove the Leaf last fall, schlepped through deep snow, conducted errands at Home Depot, and even made this hatchback the official vehicle for our editor-in-chief’s unofficial test of doughnuts vs cider.

Conclusion

At the outset of this story, I asked you to temporarily set aside the notion that buying electric automobiles will have any beneficial environmental benefits. It’s difficult and useless, of course, because buying an EV like this Leaf has such repercussions.

Going green is a strong enough incentive for many prospective buyers to specifically look for cars like the Nissan Leaf seen above. We think there are a lot of reasons to buy an EV, including the convenience of bypassing maintenance shops and gas stations, the torque-rich nature of electric power, the low noise levels, and the fun driving features.
