2023 Lexus GX 460 Interior – The Same As It’s Always Been – A few tweaks have been made to the Lexus GX for 2023 because, at its core, it remains the same luxury SUV. It’s built on the tried-and-true body-on-frame design, but with Lexus’ legendary dependability and off-road prowess. In the face of a new generation of SUVs, is this enough?
The 2023 GX is available in three trim levels: base, premium, and luxury, and it features a bigger touchscreen entertainment system display with embedded navigation that eventually supports Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto. Also with the $3,835 Black Special Edition bundle, my tester has 18 ” gloss black rims, a black roof, black glass trim as well as slightly nicer cabin materials, all of which look fantastic. The Starfire Pearl, Black Onyx, and eye-catching Green Pearl fresh paint are all included in the Black Line package.

This add-on package for Lexus’ Luxury trim adds a transmission cooler, a powerslide plate for the fuel tank as well as Lexus’ Multi-Terrain Select to mechanisms for rocks, mud, sand as well as moguls.. The Multi-Terrain as well as Panoramic View Monitors, which provide a sweeping view of an SUV’s facade as well as a display from underneath, are also available, and so is Crawl Control, which can be thought of as a low-speed autopilot for off-roading.
Even so, the GX is missing a few key off-road features. Ground clearance is the first consideration. It’s about the same height as your average crossover at 8.1 inches. Approach, as well as departure angles, are only 21 degrees for on-road use, but the 23-degree switch tilt isn’t terrible. The GX has 265/60-series Bridgestone Dueler tires, which won’t take you very far in the dirt.
There are aftermarket shops out there that can transform your GX into an off rig of your dreams, of course. While the new Grand Cherokee and Land Rover Defender have better ground clearance as well as geometry than the Lexus RX 350, they don’t have Lexus’s proven reliability.

The GX doesn’t have a digital gauge cluster, but it does have a fresh 10.3-inch touch interface for the infotainment system. In addition to the mouse, you can also use a touchpad to control the screen. Using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto rather than the in-dash nav is a better option because these apps are standard and easy to use.
There really are 2 USB ports as well as a 12-volt outlet in the front, 2 more USB connectors for 2nd passengers, and just a 100-watt, 120v AC outlet inside the cargo area for charging. Wireless charging, on the other hand, is nonexistent. 2023 Lexus GX 460 Interior
There’s no denying that the GX’s interior has been awash in high-quality materials, but its style is 12 years old as well as shows. In 2023, there are buttons all over the place as well as a CD changer. My test vehicle’s third-row seats fold flat, but they lack power. To secure them, I’ll have to scurry around in the trunk. The GX’s cargo capacity is reduced just to 11.6 cubic feet when the 3rd-row seats are folded down. For the most part, you’ll be better off leaving the seats down and taking advantage of the 46.7 cubic feet of cargo space. 2023 Lexus GX 460 Interior
Keep in mind that the cargo area is only accessible through a swinging gate on the passenger seat when parallel parking in small spaces. The great news is that you can quickly toss something inside by opening the upper glass. In addition to the heated seats front seats that are standard, the GX also has extra heated 2nd seats. The seats in the front are supportive and comfortable, however, the 2nd row seats are hard and uncomfortable. 2023 Lexus GX 460 Interior

However, the GX’s performance on the road isn’t anything special. A dehydrated 4.6-liter V8 with 301 hp as well as 329 lb of torque is housed under the hood of this car. At 15mpg city and 19mpg highway, the GX’s six-speed automatic transmission gives it an overall fuel economy rating of 16. My average fuel economy was only 18.2 mpg during the week I was testing the vehicle. A 23-gallon gas tank is a godsend. 2023 Lexus GX 460 Interior
A strong rear axle helps give the GX a truck-like feel while driving on the highway, but it’s comfortable and quiet on the road. Broken asphalt sends plenty of jolts and vibrations into the cabin. It’s a good idea to go with Germans such as the GLE-Class or even the Audi Q8 if you’re only going to be driving on the road.
The Lexus Safety Mechanism Plus suite of driver aids comes standard on the GX. An adaptive cruise control system with high speed and pedestrian detection is also part of this package. Not if you’re stuck in rush-hour traffic because adaptive cruise will not really work below 32 miles per hour. There are a few oddities in the controls, too. Distance selection can be found on the steering wheel, but the other adaptive cruise control options are on a stalk.
2023 Lexus GX 460 Release Date and Price
A base GX with heated seats and front seats would cost me $57,840, including $1,075 in delivery costs, if I had the money to spend. If I didn’t buy the Black Line tester, I’d use the $4,000 I’d save on aftermarket off-road upgrades. To help you tow the GX’s maximum 6,500 pounds, the Luxury trim adds a three-mode adjustable air suspension with air springs that can be adjusted for comfort, normal, or sport driving.
With its excellent off-road bones, the GX 460 is a capable SUV but you’ll need to make modifications to get the most out of it on the road. Even with the GX’s incredible dependability and go-anywhere attitude, it’s a hard sell.
