It was, let’s say, the shit when it was initially released in 2016. Nobody noticed that it looked like a wedge of cheese and had an interior filled of cheap plastics because it cost less than $40,000 and had a range of more than 200 miles.

Exterior & Interior
A torque-tastic electric engine is naturally entertaining—quick off the mark and instantaneous—even if I know the majority of Bolt owners aren’t interested in corner-carving sports. Unfortunately, the Bolt’s tires and chassis aren’t capable of handling the situation.
The Michelin Energy Saver all-season tires provide relatively little traction for optimal efficiency, and the hatchback is easily upset over uneven terrain. However, the Bolt’s low center of gravity and well-weighted steering allow it to turn remarkably flat. A Mini Cooper SE is far more enjoyable to drive, but not everyone can use it due to its 110-mile range.
But for me, the Chargeway app is functioning well. It separates stations into numbers for charging speed and colors for various charging kinds. As long as I inform the app that I’m in a Chevy Bolt with the fast-charging option enabled, I’m free to use any green station with numbers 1 through 4. Simple as pie. Along with user ratings and nearby attractions, the app provides me with the charger’s brand and actual location.
The Bolt’s infotainment system is shown on a 10.2-inch color screen. Even though the interface and graphics are crisp and clear, my slow reaction times force me to poke an icon twice since I assume it hasn’t been pushed.
Access is offered by a standard 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and device charging is controlled by a 12-volt outlet and two USB-A ports up front. An optional infotainment package that includes wireless charging and two extra charge-only USB-A connections for the backseat passengers is included with the Premier model.
The interior of the Bolt looks quite spacious and open, and the dash has some beautiful white trim that seems to belong in space. However, the materials are poor overall. In contrast to the competition, what wasn’t so fantastic in 2016 now just seems cheap.
Nevertheless, my Premier level’s steering wheel and front and rear seats are heated. My tester’s rear camera mirror also uses the video stream from the backup camera. I particularly appreciate that I can switch the view from video to regular mirror at any moment.
The Bolt has several minor storage alternatives, such as an open middle console and a little nook for my phone. When the rear seats are folded, the cargo area behind them expands to a pretty roomy 56.6 cubic feet, but it is still small for the class at little under 17 cubic feet. 2026 Chevy Bolt Redesign

Engine & Performance
200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque are produced by the electric drivetrain. That’s fantastic for racing to beat that yellow light, driving about town, and merging onto the highway. I can maximize the benefits of one-pedal driving and regenerative braking by putting the car in Low and lifting my right foot to slow it down.
A paddle on the left side of the steering wheel allows me to rapidly slow down the car and apply additional regen. Or I could simply press the brake pedal, you know. There is no discernible difference between mechanical and electrical stopping, and the conventional brakes feel great.
If you need to run errands on Saturday and forgot to charge the car on Friday night, the infotainment system of the Bolt has several EV pages that will show the battery level and remaining range.

The 2026 Bolt EV’s bigger 66-kilowatt-hour battery pack increases the hatchback’s range by 21 miles. Though it still outperforms the Nissan Leaf Plus and Hyundai Kona Electric, its 259-mile range is longer. Ten hours on a Level 2 home charger or, if fast-charging is enabled, about 100 miles of range in 30 minutes are the Bolt’s charging times, which are basically unchanged. However, the Leaf Plus comes with a fast-charging connection as standard.
Chevrolet’s decision to extend the Bolt’s range until 2026 and its ongoing innovation in battery technology are commendable. Additionally, it’s no secret that GM plans to launch a variety of electric cars. The Bolt is still significantly less powerful than its electric competitors, though.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many driver-assistance options available. Adaptive cruise control is absent from the Bolt, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning are only available on the top-tier Premier model level. Other optional features include front collision alert, automated emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, and lane-keeping assistance.
In addition to Tesla’s Autopilot, the Nissan Leaf Plus also comes with the manufacturer’s ProPilot Assist system if you’re looking for more sophisticated technology. Furthermore, the Bolt lacks integrated navigation. Since Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard and owners can use the MyChevy app to locate nearby charging stations, this isn’t a huge concern. 2026 Chevy Bolt Redesign
2026 Chevy Bolt Release Date & Price
The starting price of the 2026 Chevy Bolt is $37,495, which includes $875 for delivery and excludes any local or federal incentives. I would choose the base LT model instead of the optional infotainment system and heated rear seats if my money were on the line. Rather, I would upgrade my basic Bolt with the $495 confidence package to allow blind-spot monitoring and the $555 comfort package to enable heated front seats.
If you plan on doing any road trips, the $750 DC quick charging is essential. Oh, and the new Oasis Blue paint color is another one I would choose. The Bolt is quite distinctive due to its vivid blue color. The entire cost of my dream Bolt, including delivery, will be $39,295. My completely furnished tester, on the other hand, costs $43,735.
Although Chevy’s EV was the best when it first came out, the competition has done a fantastic job of matching and even outperforming it. The Kia Niro has more flair and technology, such as adaptive cruise control and GPS, but a lesser range.
About $40,000 is the starting price, which includes transportation. The Hyundai Kona has a similar range and begins at roughly $38,000 with a destination, but its peculiar appearance may turn off some buyers. Finally, even if you might like the brand cache of owning a Tesla Model 3, the car is more expensive with accessories and, despite its excellent Autopilot, it is not a self-driving vehicle.
