There is a significant difference between the two electric cars in this regard. The nearly ubiquitous all-wheel drive on Subarus makes the conventional twin-motor arrangement logical.
The Solterra’s electric motors, which have three wheels, are powered by a lithium-ion battery pack with a maximum capacity of 72.8 kilowatt-hours. The 215 horsepower and 249 pound-feet of torque produced by the Subaru are noticeably less than those of the two-motor Volkswagen ID4 and the two-motor Hyundai Ioniq 5. When needed, this EV can easily accelerate, allowing it to pass slower-moving traffic with ease. Not very effective as compared to its competitors. Thanks to its stocky frame, the ID 4 Pro makes riding more enjoyable.

The Solterra, however, falls short in terms of range. Low compared to other electric vehicles in its class, the EPA predicts a range of 228 miles for the base model Solterra and 222 miles for the Limited. Most buyers will find 228 miles to be more than enough range, especially if they have access to a Level 2 charger. However, those of us who are obsessed with numbers are smitten with the Kia EV6 and the Tesla Model Y, both of which have ranges of more than 270 miles per charge.
On the plus side, Solterra offers a top-notch technical game. As standard equipment, every Subaru comes with Subaru’s EyeSight suite of safety features. Subaru Solterras provide pre-collision braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control up to speed, pedestrian and cyclist identification, and rivalry detection, while competitors offer more advanced highway driving aids like Nissan’s ProPilot Assist and Ford’s BlueCruise.
Excellent interior technology is also available in the Solterra, courtesy of Toyota. The Solterra’s 8-inch touchscreen is standard and works with wireless systems like as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. However, the Touring and Limited trim levels come with an optional larger 12.3-inch screen that is indistinguishable from the one seen in the 2019 Tundra pickup vehicle. Compared to Subaru’s Starlink system, this entertainment system is head and shoulders above the competition thanks to its cloud-based navigation and easy voice commands.
In my opinion, the Solterra’s cabin is second to none. The design is mostly understated, with the exception of a few of nice tactile elements like the fabric dashboard and the somewhat digital pattern on the center console. Additionally, the ID 4, EV6, and Ioniq 5 are all capable of handling 800-volt designs, allowing them to manage 135 kWh, 250 kWh, and 150 kWh of charge, respectively. It takes around an hour for a Solterra to get 80% charge while using a Level 3 charger, just to clarify.
