I don’t immediately think of the Jaguar XF when I think of the market for midsize premium sport cars. A lot of people picture the E-Class, 5 Series, and Audi A6/S6 when they think of German cars; Jag and Lexus GS don’t quite make the cut.

The XF’s Jaguar-ness is immediately apparent once you’re in the driver’s seat. It is an exciting journey to discover hidden treasures. Modern Jags are known for their light and rapid steering. The front end leans in quickly when you switch wheels, and tweaking the adaptive dampers hardly makes the body lean. When applied in an emergency or right before a turn, brakes reduce speed due to their strong gripping force and the intense pedal input.
The XF’s exceptional characteristics make it an agile and energetic dance partner. My one suggestion for better handling is to make the steering heavier. Because of its reduced weight, the XF seems to be lighter than its primary all-wheel drive rivals. While the BMW 540i xDrive is 139 pounds heavier than the Audi S6, the Mercedes-AMG E43 is 265 pounds heavier than the Jaguar, but the difference in mass is astounding at 519 pounds.
While the XF has a stellar reputation for responsive handling, its last iteration had a terrible ride. The designers of the future vehicle’s chassis combined the greatest features of both types of vehicles. More comfortable suspension damping is available when the Jaguar’s Comfort setting is raised to its maximum; this is particularly helpful for everyday driving across the rutted and frost-heave-littered Midwest. Even on bumpy roads, the low-profile 20-inch Pirelli all-season tires absorb much of the impact. Wind and tire noise were muted by the inside.
Whatever you’re doing, from navigating curves to traversing massive puddles in the rain, the all-wheel-drive XF appears to always keep control. This proves that the vehicle can handle rough terrain.
I always assume the sheetmetal of an XF is far better than that of the previous generation whenever I see one in a parking lot. The automobile has a manly air because to its aggressive elements, which compliment its mature aspect. These features include big front air dams, enormous wheels, and glossy black trim.
The lodge appears to be spare and unadorned. Attractive seating is provided by a cushioned dashboard topper with contrast stitching, carbon fiber veneer accent pieces, oyster and black leather upholstery, and other materials.
Whether I’m whizzing from point A to point B or dragging in annoying traffic, the front sport seats provide me the comfort I need. And when I whip around tight curves, they keep me steady.
Those who have rode in the XFs manufactured by German rivals have complained about the softer inside and inferior materials. No matter how much the rough plastic surfaces detract from the otherwise luxurious appearance and feel of the $78,000 vehicle, tests reveal that they are all perfectly acceptable. I enjoy the minimalist look, but the inside of a Mercedes or Audi is so gorgeous and comfy that it’s a little dull.
The wide array of technological features offered by the Jag will not let you down. The InControl Touch Pro infotainment system is controlled by a central 10.2-inch touchscreen, which responds to inputs and enables quick menu navigation. You can easily go to your destinations and manage the music for the fantastic 825-watt Meridian surround-sound system, even though some of the screen buttons are still on the small side and need exact accuracy.
The InControl 3G Wi-Fi allows riders to stay connected and entertained on the go with support for up to eight devices. The fact that Jaguar refrained from controlling every interior component with the touchscreen is a relief. There is a knob for volume control and the standard set of hard buttons in the middle of the instrument for temperature adjustment.
Those who enjoy using their smartphone interfaces while driving might be let down to hear that the XF’s InTouch system isn’t yet compatible with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Despite Jaguar’s assurances, the automaker is unable to provide a timeline for when either will arrive.
Automated emergency braking with front warning, adaptive cruise control, and a surround camera system that helps with parking in tight areas are all standard safety features on the XF. The blind-spot monitor and the technology that recognizes traffic signs are still my favorite features. In the severe rain I mentioned before, the blind-spot monitor came in quite handy, and the system also served to remind me of the speed limits.

A week spent driving a 2027 Jaguar XF S AWD, with its nimble British cat’s agility, elegant grace, and cockpit so tech-rich that the German leadership would be green with envy, serves as a pleasant reminder that the agile British cat has its own distinct character.
With its 3.0 liter supercharged V6 engine that generates an astounding 380 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque, the S model has become the XF series’ crown jewel. Following acceleration into roads and weaving to avoid stoplights, Jaguar claims that the optional all-wheel-drive system would enable it to achieve 60 mph in 5.0 seconds. I can confirm this.
In dynamic mode, the ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox and dynamic powertrain allow for linear power delivery, quick gear changes, and nearly instantaneous response when the throttle is tipped in. Since the XF has perfectly calibrated upshifts and downshifts, I usually drove it in fully automated mode. However, the paddle shifters on the steering wheel allow for more driver involvement.

The vehicle’s respectable fuel efficiency is a result of its powerful V6 engine and eight-speed automatic transmission, which together score an outstanding 20 city mpg and 28 highway mpg. With ratings of 29/30 mpg, this is on level with the 540i xDrive, but it’s an improvement over the E43’s 18/25 mpg.
