I immediately downloaded the Kia Access app to my phone after we got our new Kia Linka and named it the Eastern European Planeteer, in honor of the wind. The app allows me to perform things like lock and unlock the doors, open the hatch, modify the temperature, and remotely monitor the EV6’s position and battery life. Exterior & Interior
Right away, my main issue with the 2027 EV6 became clear. In contrast to its HMA E-GMP siblings, the Genesis GV60 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, the 2027 Kia EV6 does not come with a home charging connection.
You’re still on your own when it comes to figuring out how to power the damned thing, but the EV does contain the manufacturer’s V2L converter, so you can use the battery to power gadgets or appliances off the grid or during emergencies.
Anyone thinking about getting an electric car should think about getting a permanent charging station so they may charge their vehicle whenever they need to. Having a 110-volt or 240-volt charging cable and brick on hand might be useful in case of an emergency when traveling or as a short-term option for charging during the first few weeks of ownership.
New owners may find the 1,000 kW of Electrify America DC fast charging available with the Kia Charge Pass handy, albeit it does rely on their proximity to a station. Thankfully, a couple of them are rather close to my house.

Engine & Performance
Because I want to drive the EV6 thousands of miles each year, it was an obvious choice for our next long-term test vehicle. We had to settle for less power since the 576-horsepower EV6 GT was revealed too soon to be ready for testing when we wanted it. There are a few advantages to the more conservative trim levels, though.
After driving the top-of-the-line GT-Line model and coming to the conclusion that it was the best option in the lineup, we settled on the EV6 Wind e-AWD for the 2027 model year. We settled on a two-motor all-wheel drive setup that produced 320 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque.
As far as the EPA is concerned, my 77.4 kWh Kia battery pack should allow me to go about 274 miles on a single charge. With the battery reserve taken into consideration, the mileage per kilowatt-hour comes to 3.125. 2027 Kia EV6 Redesign

The free Kia Charge Pass charging service is out of my reach as I am not the EV6’s official owner. All kilowatt-hours that were used have instead been paid for. Despite the pain, I was able to figure out how much conventional DC quick charging costs.
In the seven months after receiving my Linka at the tail end of November 2027, I covered more over 4,120 kilometers. The majority of the remaining miles are highway miles in moderate traffic, with a couple longer road excursions interspersed. For the most part, the remaining kilometers are paved surface streets and B-roads that round the town.
I have largely explored in Normal or Eco mode, with occasional forays into the Sport program, because my favorite dynamic routes were restricted by landslides owing to a particularly rainy winter. Thankfully, this was just recently lifted. My average MPG during its lifetime is close to 3.3 miles per kWh, which is somewhat higher than the EPA’s estimations; on rare occasions, I’ve even achieved 4.0 MPG on a single trip.
Due to the sluggish and costly fast charging, I seldom charge the EV6 above 80%. I also make sure it never drops below 20% just in case. This is why my range between charges is truly 150–160 miles. Electrify America charges $0.48/kWh, but my DC rapid charge sessions often cost $20 and cover a range of 20% to 80%.
I grew knowledgeable at roughly 1,800 miles and then joined EA’s Pass Plus program. My typical 20-80% session costs about $16; with the $4 monthly membership, the cost per kWh drops to $0.36. After only one charge, it practically pays for itself.
It has been a useful feature to be able to combine DC rapid charging with slower level 2 charging on occasion. There is long-term parking available at both the San Francisco and Oakland airports, and many stores also provide free parking.
I have spent a total of $414.55 on charges this year, which works out to around $0.10 per mile. During this extended trial, Kia will pay for the insurance. (Regarding the price, you should be aware that electric car insurance is often more costly than gas-powered vehicle insurance.)

Finally, we have the issue of maintenance—or rather, the lack thereof. Changing the coolant and brake pads every so often seems to be the extent of the EV6’s long-term maintenance needs. This stands in sharp contrast to the initial few hundred miles, when most new vehicles—whether ICE or EV—typically don’t require any maintenance.
At 24,000 miles, the electric car will undergo its first big planned maintenance event: a tire rotation. The vehicle’s brakes, air conditioning, 12-volt battery, and suspension parts will also be checked. Unless you drive 48,000 miles or around two years, whichever comes first, you shouldn’t change the brake fluid.
Any system worth its salt will inevitably require regular maintenance. Keeping everyone safe and maximizing efficiency has been as simple as checking the tire pressure whenever the weather changes and adding washer fluid as needed for the previous few months. It has also been necessary to clean the back camera extensively due to the volume of precipitation. (Kia may also think about making a washer for this.)
I already knew this, but this first milestone only confirmed it: quick charging is generally saved for times when you’re away from home, like on a road trip. In order for it to be really economical, I need to find out how to charge the EV6 at home, ideally using less expensive off-peak power. 2027 Kia EV6 Release Date & Price
We were astounded by the 2027 EV6, Kia’s first completely electric vehicle, when it initially arrived at the CNET garage at the start of last year. Its price, range, and performance were all astounding. I also had company. In 2017, the EV6 won a slew of awards, including several for SUVs and vehicles in general, and the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year title in particular. (I must admit, I am a member of the NACTOY jury.)
Due to my distaste for the full-fat GT-Line, I had to forego a sunroof, bigger 20-inch wheels, body-color trim, and a few other conveniences. When it comes to comfort and range, the 19s are now marginally superior than the previous versions, which are only for show.
Wind e-AWD saved us over $2,000 off our hypothetical budget since it is less costly. It cost $55,105 to purchase the electric SUV. The price included a destination fee of $1,295 as well as a technology package for $1,500, an off-white Glacier paint color for $495, and floor mats and cargo covers for $415.
