2026 Tesla Model S Specs, Review, Dimensions – The new Tesla Model S is a very different car to drive, even if it looks similar on the outside. Will that, however, be enough to stave off the rivals? The Model S has become more than simply a household name. The final version of the automobile didn’t go on sale until 2012, despite the fact that the early concept was revealed in 2009. I won’t argue about how much range people require because it’s a complicated topic, but let’s just say that 370 miles is plenty to ease even the most anxious drivers’ range worries.

Fortunately, the original Model S is still in use today, almost unchanged, as it was a really attractive vehicle. The remainder of the vehicle remains mostly unchanged, although the 2016 nip and tuck undoubtedly helping to straighten an otherwise quite cluttered nose.

That continues on the inside. Though some new color options and trim have been added throughout the years to keep things from getting too stale, the interior of the Model S Long Range is a little lackluster for a car that starts at $85,000. I enjoy that vegan leather is an option, and the materials are typically nice, even if many people would prefer the real thing. This is significantly more sophisticated and attractive than even something like the Volvo V60, which costs less than $40,000. More specifically, the range is lower for Audi’s E-Tron, which starts at $74,800 and has far better amenities.

Moreover, there are other problems than texture and look. The 2012 strike seems outdated given that Tesla does not presently provide ventilated seats or that infotainment system. Even worse, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are still not supported. The lack of a 360-degree, bird’s eye parking perspective is especially perplexing given the excessive number of cameras on what appears to be every element of the vehicle.

Beneath the infotainment screens are a plethora of other little parts, many of which are only visible to those who know where to look. I really enjoy being in dog mode since my dogs just want to ride. They have to stay indoors during the warmer months, though. Even if you lock the doors, the car will stay at the temperature you specify when it is in dog mode. Crucially, the car also features a big, inviting placard that ought to discourage kind-hearted onlookers from breaking in.

In addition, there are several new features that build upon the Model S’s long-standing remote preconditioning capabilities, such sentry mode, which makes use of all those cameras to record any questionable behavior near your parked vehicle. Comparing permanent magnet motors to induction motors is challenging since certain motors’ structure and design may conflict with fundamental performance concepts. But with previous Model S versions, I was not aware of the problem with the torque steer mechanism. I had to keep a tight grip on the wheel while driving quickly, but it wasn’t as painful as a Mazdaspeed 3, Saab 9-3 Viggen, or any other front-wheel-drive vehicle from the past that put my forearm to the test.

This was especially true during rainy seasons. I’m inclined to attribute this problem to the new motor’s increased torque because I’ve driven a number of Model S variants over the years and have never experienced it. However, another change in geometry or a modification in the wheel offset might also be the cause. Anyway, if Tesla could fix this with a software update, I wouldn’t be surprised. This time would be different from the first time.

What about their famous choice? In my tests, I traveled 379 kilometers and “burned” 109.6 kWh of charge. The 100 kWh battery cannot achieve the 348-mile theoretical maximum range since you don’t really have access to the complete pack. In any case, my testing included many acceleration tests and a lot of rapid driving.

I didn’t drive fast or keep off the highway for the last 180 miles, but I also didn’t stop at every stop sign. Based on use at the time, the car’s theoretical maximum range was 382 miles. In other words, I have no doubt that the 370-mile EPA rating is fair. And, of course, impressive.

Lastly, improved ultimate grip and decreased rolling resistance are offered by new tire combinations that accommodate rims wider than 19 and 21 inches. Summer drivers will use Michelin Pilot Sport 4 or 4S tires, while all-season drivers will use Goodyear Eagle Touring tires designed specifically for Tesla.

A few key features are still missing from the Model S after seven years, but they are overshadowed by other, usually creative, improvements that have been developed over time. Due to Tesla’s well-known over-the-air upgrades, some of these features have even been retroactively added to older cars.

Autopilot is the most popular and, without a question, the most controversial. Autopilot, which offers several safety and convenience features, has evolved significantly since its introduction in 2014. Despite its ups and downs and certainly a few PR blackeyes, the system is currently rather good and maybe the most complete of its kind available in the United States.

While Autopilot is more useful on more highways and can now change lanes and even exits on its own, Navigate isn’t as hands-off as Cadillac’s Super Cruise. Please fight the impulse to take your hands off the wheel, even though many people do this since it’s so incredible. Just to be clear, this is not a self-driving car. Keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road, people.

At $85,000, the starting price of the Model S Long Range is still a lot higher than that of the Model 3 Performance. For that, you’re getting a good car with Autopilot and all-wheel drive. Any color other than black will cost at least $1,500, and the white you see here costs $2,000. If you’re feeling very adventurous, you could spend $4,500 for 21-inch wheels, but I would go with the standard 19-inch wheels. The Atari 2600 pattern and all-black interior are included in the basic price, but I would pay an additional $1,500 for nearly everything else.

Furthermore, until recently, I strongly opposed the $6,000 “self-driving” upgrade. I would definitely give it some consideration if it had more Autopilot functions and Enhanced Summon. The entire cost is $94,500 plus $1,125 for delivery.
