2027 Mini Cooper SE Engine, MPG, Configurations – Given their little stature, limited range, and sluggish charging pace, the new Cooper E and SE seem better suited to city inhabitants than extreme road warriors. The fifth-generation Mini Cooper hatchback is the latest electric vehicle from the illustrious British manufacturer and BMW subsidiary Mini.
The battery-operated, updated Cooper will be available for purchase very shortly. Perfected for city driving, the electric range and performance are complemented with a contemporary cockpit that adds a contemporary spin to the timeless Mini design.
Electric Minis are nothing new to us. Manufactured in 2018, the Countryman PHEV was the pioneer in plug-in hybridization testing. The all-new 2027 Mini Cooper SE, which made its debut in 2020, has 114 miles. Exterior & Interior
Like its four forerunners, the new Mini Cooper is a small hatchback. Although we do not have official dimensions from the event, it does not appear that the new Cooper is noticeably longer or taller than the previous model. Its wheelbase and width, however, are vastly larger.
Mini developers were able to better incorporate the battery and e-motors into the design of this new generation of cars by conceiving it as an electric vehicle from the start. The overall proportions of the car were reduced, in my opinion, because of this.
The designers at Mini streamlined and eliminated features in an effort to highlight the overarching motifs of the brand’s almost 60-year heritage. With the removal of chrome and the simplification of geometric features in the grille and headlights, the Cooper now looks completely different.
The bigger wheels assist in expressing the little size of the vehicle, even if it has been somewhat enlarged. Additionally, the rear LED matrix tail lights of the Cooper may now be customized, however they can still be set up with a Union Jack design.
Earlier this year, at an exclusive BMW preview event in Munich, I spent a good chunk of time analyzing the new Cooper’s exterior, interior, and body. The Mini’s small size and proportions are appealing, even though I have some qualms about its simplicity. The fact that it is undeniably a Mini is the most crucial fact.
Inside, my favorite feature of the modernized Cooper is the slim dashboard reminiscent of the original Mini from the 1960s, with its digital spin on the iconic circular speedometer, and all the concealed hardware buttons and toggles that make up the instrument cluster.

Engine & Performance
There will be two powertrain options available to customers when the electrified hatchback is released: the Cooper E and the Cooper SE. A 135 kW (184 HP) electric motor and a 40.7 kWh high-voltage battery provide the power for the Mini Cooper E.
An estimated seven and a half seconds is all it takes for the Cooper E to get from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h), thanks to its 214 pound-feet of torque. Mini projects that this car will have a range of around 190 kilometers between charges, based on the more lenient international WLTP test cycle.
An electric motor with a maximum output of 160 kW (218 horsepower) and 243 lb-ft of torque is now standard on the sportier Cooper SE. With the additional power, the acceleration from 0 to 62 mph is accomplished in a just 6.7 seconds.
An increase to 54.2 kWh increases the range to 250 miles between charges, as reported by WLTP. While it’s true that our more stringent EPA test cycle in the US has decreased this mileage, it’s still a huge improvement over the 114 miles delivered by the current Cooper SE.
Thanks to its long wheelbase, wide track, and low center of gravity—a result of its underfloor battery pack, powerful stabilizer bars, and larger, broader wheels and tires—the Cooper offers composed handling. Even if Mini’s engineers think the hatchback is still a hot one and would provide drivers the “go-kart feeling” they’re used to, the new Cooper is definitely heavier than the previous four models.
With its 11 kW onboard charger, the Cooper EV can be charged overnight. The Cooper E can only produce 75 kW of DC power when connected to a quick charging station, but the SE can produce 95 kW. Going from 10% to 80% capacity with a DCFC station shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes.
The Mini Cooper EV isn’t the best choice for cross-country rallies because of how slowly it charges and how little power it has. It could be exhausting to drive long distances on a single charge because the car only has a range of 175 miles. City residents or commuters looking for a range that allows them to move around town and maybe charge once or twice a week could be more suited to the Mini.
It wouldn’t shock me if the more powerful and longer-range SE is the only engine that crosses the Atlantic to reach cities in the US, as the E might not be competitive or affordable. That being said, we don’t know just yet. 2027 Mini Cooper SE Engine
2027 Mini Cooper SE Release Date & Price
The fifth-generation Mini Cooper and the third-generation Mini Countryman, with the latter set to be an electric car, were unveiled on Friday. At a gathering in April 2024, the electric two-seater will be joined by the production-ready Mini Aceman concept, forming a trio. These are the most current significant changes to Mini’s plan to manufacture only electric vehicles by 2030.
