2027 Audi Q6 E-Tron Specs, Performance, Review

2027 Audi Q6 E-Tron Specs, Performance, Review – Two motors, two charging outlets, and a large battery that divides in half for more effective fill-ups are features of Audi’s next electric SUV.

Since many purchasers in the class are interested in and prepared to switch to electric cars, it is generally known that midsize luxury SUVs are now quite popular, particularly in America. This is demonstrated by the Tesla Model Y’s achievement as the 2023 best-selling vehicle worldwide. With a number of innovative features, the new Audi Q6 E-Tron and its sport-tuned SQ6 variant make their premiere in an attempt to win over customers in this fiercely competitive market.

With quicker charging and more efficiency, the Q6 is the first Audi model to be constructed on the new PPE electric vehicle platform, which Porsche’s future Macan EV will also employ. The EV’s dashboard features three OLED screens that are controlled by AI and Android in addition to the automaker’s newest technologies.

With their state-of-the-art features that enhance both safety and elegance, even the taillights elevate the standard. In preparation for what may be the most significant vehicle in its battery-powered range and a watershed in the company’s journey toward complete electrification, Audi has gone all out.

With dimensions of 187.8 inches in length and 114.1 inches in wheelbase, the Q6 is a member of Audi’s E-Tron family, which also includes the smaller Q4 E-Tron and the larger Audi Q8 E-Tron. Because of its size, it can rival the Model Y and be a luxury substitute for other midsize EV SUVs like the VW ID 4, Kia’s EV6, and Ford Mustang Mach-E. The cargo space behind the motorized lift gate is about 18.6 cubic feet.

The extra 2.2 cubic feet of frunk storage up front could be enough to hold the charging cord or a small piece of carry-on luggage. Five passengers may fit in the roomy cabin, which has a level, hump-free floor. Additionally, according to Audi, the midsize E-Tron SUV can haul more than two tons (US). 2027 Audi Q6 E-Tron Specs

Exterior & Interior

Unfortunately, this version of MMI has more voice control and touch screen capabilities than previous generations, and fewer haptic and tactile controls. Audi’s new AI-voice assistant, which has over 800 functions and many with up to 100 variations, will be released in the Q6. Both offline and cloud-based natural language recognition power it. Additionally, the system will respond to general inquiries and knowledge-based questions regarding the car itself, such “how much pressure goes into the tire?”

The driver is the only one who can alter the route because of directional microphones; a younger passenger cannot say, “Hey Audi, navigate to Coldstone.” Simply saying the “Hey Audi” hotword will cause the car to react when it recognizes that the driver is the only one in the cabin.

A sizable augmented reality head-up display that projected navigation, speed, and driving assistance data into the driver’s field of vision is another option available for the Q6 E-Tron. According to Audi, when the E-Tron is parked, the HUD may also be used to operate one of two steering-wheel games.

The Audi Interaction Light, a strip of 84 full-color LEDs that move and light up to signify various functions like the turn signal, driver aid warnings, or the AI Assistant voice command, is also visible to users along the edge of the dashboard at the base of the windshield. When plugged in, the strip can also function as a charging indication because it is visible from the exterior of the car. The older sister of the Q6 E-Tron, the Volkswagen ID 4, has comparable technologies.

Without a revolutionary lighting system that is too sophisticated for US vehicle laws, this wouldn’t be an Audi premiere. New generation OLED and LED technologies are features of the new Q6 E-Tron. The rear lights share 360 triangular digital OLED segments that may show animated sequences that lock the car or welcome the driver when they arrive, while the front lights each include 61 white LED segments for daytime operation.

Eleven user-selectable themes that alter the shape and appearance of the SUV’s light signature are also powered by this capability. To lessen distractions for other drivers, one theme even features animations that play while you drive. These animations employ an algorithm to maintain a consistent total light output. Since moving lights are prohibited on passenger automobiles in the US, we will only see static themes.

Audi is considering methods to enhance both safety and aesthetics with its lighting technology. For instance, the OLED taillights transform into a triangle symbol (like the button for most cars’ warning lights) when the autonomous emergency braking system or hazard lights are activated to alert other drivers to danger.

Audi also showed off tail light combinations that would alert pedestrians or other vehicles when a door was going to open into a bike lane or when the Q6 was performing an automatic parking move. It doesn’t appear to alter visibility and always has a little effect.

2027 Audi Q6 E-Tron Performance

Audi’s cutting-edge triple-display Digital Stage MMI infotainment suite will welcome you as soon as you get behind the wheel. In this configuration, a single glass panel that curved around the steering wheel houses two flexible OLED displays: an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a sizable 14.5-inch primary touchscreen.

The most recent version of Audi’s Multimedia Interface (MMI) software, which is now based on Android Automotive OS, is installed on the hardware. However, in the absence of “Google Built-In,” customers will get YouTube, PlugShare, Spotify, Beach Buggy Racing, and other apps through Audi’s own strictly regulated marketplace instead of Google Play Services. (Incidentally, gaming and video applications are only available when you’re parked and charging.)

Audi’s marketplace also offers “function on demand” options, such as enhanced surround sound or various light signature themes, which is sort of nice. Nevertheless, this only increases the danger of paywalling and microtransactions, which I find boring.

The 10.9-inch passenger display on the far right of the dashboard completes this triple screen configuration. The front seat passenger may choose music sources, communicate locations to the main navigation screen, and more with this fully featured infotainment interface. Thanks to an Active Privacy Mode that keeps the driver from seeing or being distracted by the auxiliary screen, passengers may even watch videos from websites like YouTube while the car is driving. 2027 Audi Q6 E-Tron Specs

Engine & Performance

Similar to the future Porsche Macan EV, the Q6 E-Tron is powered by the Volkswagen Group’s new Premium Platform Electric architecture. The SUV with dual-motor all-wheel drive will be available in the Q6 and SQ6 versions when it first launches. While the rear permanent magnet (PSM) motor is a bit more powerful and works constantly, the front motor is an asynchronous (ASM) unit that delivers torque to the front axle when needed.

Because of their similar rotor and stator sizes and the reduced need of pricey rare earth metals in their manufacturing, both motors may share many parts, reducing complexity and costs. In order to enhance thermal performance, efficiency, and, eventually, range, each motor has a self-contained dry sump lubrication and cooling system that injects oil directly onto the spinning parts of the e-motors. Racing combustion engines served as the model for this concept. This is one important commonality.

The Q6 E-Tron Quattro, which has a combined output of 315 kW (about 422 horsepower) in the US, may achieve its expected 5.0-second 0-60 mph sprint by raising to 340 kW (456 hp) for a launch control burst. In contrast, the more powerful SQ6 E-Tron can reach 60 mph in 4.2 seconds with a launch-controlled dash and 380 kW (510 horsepower) and 360 kW (483 horsepower) combined. The Q6’s 130 mph speed restriction is just lower than the SQ6’s peak speed of 143 mph.

During a quick first drive of a European-spec prototype on a parking lot handling course at the Audi Brand Experience Center at Munich Airport, I was able to personally experience the power of the SQ6. In its Dynamic driving mode, which keeps both engines running and weights up the steering for a more accurate feel, it is incredibly responsive and fast.

On the other hand, efficiency mode keeps what appears to be enough power for commuting around town while deactivating the front motor for increased range. After the North American specification is out, we will go back to the Q6 E-Tron since I would need more time behind the wheel to get more thorough driving impressions.

The new 100 kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery pack (or 94.9 kWh when reserve is taken into consideration) in the Q6 and SQ6 designs has a special chemistry that should result in a 50% increase in energy density over the previous generation while using less cobalt to produce.

According to Audi, the Q6’s battery is 15% lighter than that of its previous EV generation with the same capacity, allowing it to go “over 300 miles” between charges. (EPA hasn’t disclosed its actual figures yet.) At the time of publishing, Audi has not disclosed the exact cost of the SQ6’s wider tires, bigger wheels, and performance enhancements.

Additionally, according to Audi, the 800-volt design of the new Q6 charges 30% quicker than that of its predecessors. The EV can be charged from 10% to 80% in as little as 21 minutes using an 800-volt DC fast charging station, which can supply up to 270 kW of power. Nonetheless, 400 volts is the operating voltage of the great majority of DCFC stations now in use.

The 800-volt battery from Audi may so divide into two “virtual batteries” that can be charged concurrently at 400 volts each. The maximum charging speed decreases to 135 kW in this mode, but less energy is wasted on voltage conversion, which might result in quicker charge times and lower costs.

The two charging connections that Audi’s E-Tron cars have always had are now located in the back fenders of the Q6, giving drivers a little more freedom while parking and charging at home and destination chargers. In addition to AC Level 1 and Level 2 charging, DC rapid charging is supported by the driver’s side CCS combo connector.

The AC-only passenger side connection can take up to 9.6 kW/40A of single-phase, 240-volt electricity from North America. The “Tesla port” will not be available at launch for the Q6 E-Tron, even though Audi has pledged to adopt the NACS standard.

The Q6 can use recovered braking energy to recharge itself, much as other EVs. Five user-selectable regeneration modes are now available, including a brand-new one-pedal driving mode that stops the SUV without using the brake pedal and starts full regeneration using the accelerator. Up to 220 kW of recuperation is available in all modes, which recovers up to 95% of the braking energy with each stop and automatically balances the regeneration with the friction brakes as necessary. 2027 Audi Q6 E-Tron Specs

2027 Audi Q6 E-Tron Release Date & Price

I’m thrilled about this new addition to the EV landscape and am eager to get behind the wheel more, experience the performance in real-world scenarios, and see how Audi’s distinctive approach to dashboard technology holds up on the road after testing the technology and taking the Q6 and SQ6 E-Tron SUVs for very brief first drives.

2027 Audi Q6 E-Tron Review

Prices for the first Audi Q6 E-Trons will start this month (March 2024) at 74,700 euros (about $81,203), and orders will start to arrive in Europe this summer. Although the precise MSRP has not yet been disclosed, North American costs are likely to be much cheaper and lie between the smaller Q4 ($56,395) and bigger Q8 ($75,595) E-Tron variants. You may find more information at AudiUSA.com when bookings open in the coming weeks.

Following the launch, Audi intends to add two rear-wheel drive setups and Sportback versions to its lineup (i.e., a long-range model and an entry-level vehicle that, in my opinion, will employ a smaller 83 kWh battery pack). Although it has not yet issued a formal statement or given a precise date, the firm has announced the arrival of the even hotter-trotting RS Q6 E-Tron variant.
